The Relation between the Position of Maxilla and Rapid Maxillary Expansion Failure

Introduction: The palatal expansion may be a challenging treatment in late adolescents who has passed the peak of skeletal growth. success rate these patients decreases due to decreased growth potential.
 Aim: It was aimed determine any clinical/radiological indicator used as predictor failure rapid maxillary (RME) adolescence.
 Materials and methods: records had undergone RME therapy between years 2013-2019 were evaluated. allocated into two groups according success: successful (S-RME) failed (F-RME) groups. Fifty systemically healthy cervical vertebral maturation stage 5/6 enrolled (35 females, 15 males). Eleven (10 one male) F-RME group, 39 (25 14 males) S-RME group. Five cephalometric (related position) three clinical variables (age, gender, CVMS) Variables subjected multiple logistic regression analysis for setting prediction model detecting predictors.
 Results: Patients with CVMS-6 16.8-fold higher risk than CVMS-5. 1 mm anterior position PNS increased 2.9 times. reduction distance cranial base vertical direction 60% failure.
 Conclusion: CVM patient, along sagittal PNS, found possible predictors adolescence.
